The Coastal Settlement

Over a weekend afternoon, we went to explore a nice, cozy, homely dining place with vintage interior design and furnishings which located at Changi, Netheravon Road.  To me, it was a secluded place and inconvenient.  Therefore, I'm  thankful to my colleague's hubby who drove us there ^.~.  From my photos below, you could see how wonderfully are their restaurant/cafe/bar settings ~ like it to the max!  It's a great place to relax or chill out with your friends or family ~ avoiding the crowds in town.

Now come to our food tasting time (^_^)...We were really spoilt with choices in their menu ~ local, western & italian food.  So we ended up ordering so much food and finished up ALL! Bravo!  Overall, their food was decent and delicious. Pizza was our fav.

Well, I have so much to share and update in my blog but I have been busy planning for my vacation and also rather lazy to do any update here..hehe! I'll try to update as much as possible.  So stay tuned!

YAYOIKEN Japanese Restaurant

One of my favorite supermarket place in town is Meiyi-da @ Liang Court Shopping Centre where you can easily get imported Japanese groceries and at times, they hold Japan Food Fairs too.   I also like to patronize the Japanese restaurants and deli there ~ such as Tampopo where they serve delicious tonkatsu and kurobuta ramen.  Oh their desserts such as Mont Blanc, Scoop Cake, Cream Puff are so yummy.  Well, I just have a piece of their scoop cake for afternoon tea today.

The other day, I was at Liang Court and suggested to my friends to try out the Japanese food at Yayoiken before heading to our Karaoke singing.  Here were our food orders 1sm210eat

I have always like Calpis soda and candies ever since I tasted them in Japan.
That day, I ordered the Calpis uncarbonated soft drink ~
a light, sweet and tangy yogurt flavor drink.

Ebi Gyoza ~ the ones which we usually ordered are with pork fillings.

You can eat the pickles as much as you want.  It is placed in a container at our dining table.
We had ordered the tuna & corn salad.  I simply love the Japanese salad dressing. So tasty.

Mix Toji ~ Beef, Pork Culet & Fried Prawn topped with eggs.

Mixed Grill Set ~ lotsa meat....these were my friends' order.

Mixed Grilled Set

This was my order ~ Saba Miso Set
Overall, the restaurant service is good and their food prices are affordable.

My 1st Lo Hei (捞起) of CNY 2012

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, it is traditionally that we will have our LO HEI (捞起) or prosperity toss.  It is a colorful dish with raw fish slices, mixed shredded of vegetables, other condiments and sauces.  As what the old folks say, the more Lo Hei that you have eaten, it brings more prosperity and abundance of good luck, health and weath to you. I hope that I get to have more Lo Hei this year.thumbs up

Here's my first Lo Hei at my reunion dinner with my family. It is specially prepared by my mum.
Thanks Smiley Hearts Animated GifMUM!

We use abalone instead of raw fish.

Well, I am looking forward to my next Lo Hei tomorrow and many more to come.

Chinese New Year 2012 ^__^

My celebration of the Christmas and New Year was just over last December.  Now I am looking forward to welcome the next festive season which is the Chinese New Year (CNY).  As always, I am eager to taste all the CNY goodies that I ordered and received from my friends.  To avoid myself from getting sore throat and ulcers, I have started to drink 凉茶 (herbal tea) and aloe vera drink to cool off the heatiness after consuming so much of the CNY cookies ^.~

Before I started to write this page, I went to read the post on my last year CNY goodies.  Well, it seems like I have bought quite a bit this year.  Now, let's get on to have a look on my delectable goodies.

I receive this multi-layered cake from Boss. Her sister-in-law bakes this cake perfectly well.

This is a traditional sweet snacks. It tastes like mochi ~ so soft & chewy. This was made by an ex-colleague's mum and we always get a box during CNY.

This is a packet of BBQ sliced pork (Bak Kwa) from a gift hamper given to our dept.  The bak kwa is in vaccum-packed and instructions given either to place it in a bowl of hot water to warm it up before eating OR microwave the packet (we used this method as it is tastier. Just microwave it for 20mins).  It's fun to microwave the packet of bak kwa as it blows up like a big bubble.  We thought it will explode. But when you remove it from the oven, the packet flattens.  However, I still prefer to buy those freshly BBQ at the stalls rather than the vaccum packed bak kwa.

These tarts are a MUST-HAVE cookies during CNY Smiley.
They are so many sold in the stalls as well as homemade.

These are the open-faced pineapple tarts.  The pastry base is buttery and soft which melt in your mouthSmiley
Hey don't get deceived by the unappetizing look of this snack. Let me tell you ~ it's so yummy and I just can't resist to eat more after having 1 piece. This is a great snack to go with bi-ru too.
So I'm gonna keep all for myself ~  hehe!Smiley

Pretty flower patterns cookies.
They taste similar to the Bee Hive cookies that I bought from Home's Favourite last year.

Cornflakes cookies ~ crunchy

Qi Gu Chips ~ This chips are made from Arrow Head plant. The plant is cut into thin slices and fry them.
I still prefer my potato chips...hehe :P But mum and my aunty like it.

Prawn Crackers ~ such a big tub which my friend bought it for me. Thanks E-san!

Biscotti ~ I like to have this together with my cup of coffee.  Thanks Li-san for giving me this biscuits.

These are like mini spring rolls ~ it's wrapped with spicy dried shrimp fillings.  Another type of fillings is pork floss which is non-spicy.

Walnut Sesame Cookies ~ fragrant!

Kueh Bangkit ~ this is my all-time favourite cookies that melt in my mouth.

Such cute shapes and patterns.

Tomorrow is CNY eve and we will be having our reunion dinner at home ~ Big feast again ^0^
I will be offline for a few days to enjoy this celebration and promise to be back soon with more foodie posts.

Wishing all a Happy Chinese New Year!
新年快乐!万事大吉!合家欢乐!财源广进!恭喜发财!
